In Belgium, Speculoos can be found everywhere. These cookies have a rich flavor of cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and ginger. Here, they are made in the traditional way with real butter and brown sugar, baked using beautifully designed special wooden molds. According to tradition, they are typically baked on the eve of St. Nicholas Day, which falls on December 5th and 6th. Children put their shoes by the chimney before going to bed, and if they have been good throughout the year, they find Speculoos in their shoes as a reward.

Most Belgians drink beer, which is considered the “national drink” and enjoys a unique reputation, making Belgium the only country in the world to preserve ancient beer culture. The most important beer style in Belgium is Trappist beer, and Brussels boasts over 350 varieties of beer, earning it the title of the “beer city.” On the streets of Brussels, the most common signs are those that say “Biere,” and beer taverns are practically next door to each other, with everyone holding a glass of Belgian beer in hand.
